Los resultados del primer trimestre, dados a conocer por el ministerio de Fomento, muestran que durante el primer trimestre de este año 2014, se movieron por las carreteras 241,5 millones de toneladas en servicio público, lo que representa un 6,5% más que en el mismo periodo del año pasado y pone fin, además, a seis años consecutivos de caídas en los tráficos logrados en los periodos de enero a marzo.
Las rutas internacionales continúan liderando el crecimiento de actividad de las empresas españolas, con un repunte del 22,2% en el volumen de mercancías transportadas, al alcanzar 19,2 millones de toneladas, lo que constituye el mejor resultado trimestral logrado por el sector desde que Fomento comenzó a elaborar en 2002 estas tablas estadísticas.
Por su parte, los trayectos dentro del territorio estatal muestran una evolución más moderada, del 5,3%, al situarse en 222,3 millones de toneladas. En este segmento, los servicios con mejor comportamiento fueron los intramunicipales, de menor recorrido, que avanzan hasta un 35% en relación al primer trimestre de 2013.
Particularmente positivo ha sido el balance de este inicio de año en las carreteras del País Vasco, que ha aumentado su actividad un 26%, logrando 25,7 millones en el trimestre; o Andalucía, que crece un 17,1% hasta marzo, con 44,1 millones. Madrid, en cambio, es la comunidad que reduce más porcentaje de tráfico, al caer un 17,4%, y situar su resultado en 20,9 millones de toneladas. Valencia, con 42,6 millones, disminuye su actividad un 5%; mientras que Cataluña, la primera autonomía en volúmenes, con 53 millones, reduce su resultado en 3,4%.
